RESUMO

Background Dental pain among adults is a prevalent concern impacting oral health and quality of life. Dental pain management presents a significant challenge for dental practitioners in effectively alleviating patient discomfort. Among the medications available, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are considered the most effective analgesics in dental care. While numerous studies have been conducted to assess the role of antibiotics in dental practice, there is a scarcity of studies specifically examining the prescription patterns of analgesics. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of dental practitioners (DPs) in India concerning the management of adult dental pain. Method This survey utilized a computer-aided questionnaire-based approach. A total of 110 dentists, including 16 from metropolitan areas and 84 from non-metropolitan cities practicing at dental healthcare setups, clinics, and hospitals, were interviewed as part of the survey. The participants comprised dental professionals specializing in prosthodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, and oral medicine. The study was conducted between September 2022 and January 2023. Results The primary reason patients seek dental consultation, as reported by 95% of dentists, is tooth cavities, followed by tooth sensitivity, post-root canal treatment, and pulpitis. All surveyed dentists prescribed NSAIDs to their patients for managing dental pain. Local anesthesia (LA) was the second choice for 75% of dentists, prescribed to 23% of their patients. The primary use of NSAIDs was for patients experiencing severe pain and to manage post-procedure pain. Eighty percent of DPs recognized ketorolac as a fast-acting molecule, providing immediate relief within 10-15 minutes. Overall, analysis indicated that 98% of DPs are satisfied and 67% are extremely satisfied with ketorolac among monotherapies for dental pain management due to its quick onset of action, fast pain relief, and usefulness in post-surgical pain management. Conclusion NSAIDs like ketorolac, diclofenac, and aceclofenac were the preferred prescriptions for overall dental pain management. Dental practitioners associated ketorolac with fast pain relief, quick onset of action, and effectiveness in post-surgical pain management, emphasizing its lasting effects. The insights from the study contribute to enhancing dental pain management strategies.

Barodontalgia, barometric pressure-induced dental pain, may occur during hyperbaric oxygen(HBO2) therapy due to pressure changes. This case report presents an 8-year-old male patient with barodontalgia. The patient declared a severe toothache during HBO2 therapy. The diving medicine specialist referred the patient to the dental clinician immediately. On clinical examination, the pain was thought to be caused by caries lesions of the deciduous teeth in the left maxillary molar region. Tooth extraction was suggested. After extraction, the patient continued hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions without any pain. The patient was recommended for an intraoral and radiographic examination session one week after the extraction. In conclusion, caries lesions and faulty restorations should be examined before hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions. Even though barodontalgia is a rare phenomenon, dental examination is essential to avoid these kinds of pain-related complications. All carious lesions and defective restorations must be treated, if necessary. Removal of faulty restorations and management of inflammation as part of the treatment is suggested before exposure to pressure changes.

Background and Objectives: Dental pain is a common problem that often leads to unscheduled dental visits and requires a comprehensive understanding of analgesics, including their indications and contraindications. The aim of this study was to investigate dentists' knowledge, self-reported confidence levels, and prescribing patterns of analgesics in dentistry. Materials and Methods: A nationwide cross-sectional online survey was conducted, resulting in 379 responses. Of these, 68.6% were general dentists, and 31.4% were specialists. The collected data included sociodemographic information, levels of knowledge, and prescription patterns. The survey questionnaire explored self-perceived practices, patient information during prescription, and guiding factors. Descriptive statistics and a generalized linear model for regression were used for data analysis. Results: Higher levels of knowledge were observed in specific contexts such as secondary/tertiary healthcare (p = 0.022), specialization in endodontics (p = 0.003), and a higher number of working hours with patients (p = 0.038). Conversely, increased self-confidence was observed among endodontists (p = 0.008), oral surgeons (p = 0.011), and dentists with more than 6 h of patient interaction (p ≤ 0.001). Orthodontists and prosthodontists demonstrated lower knowledge levels, while specialists in family dentistry exhibited lower self-confidence. Self-confidence and knowledge displayed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.039, p < 0.001). The most frequently prescribed medication was ibuprofen (97.9%), primarily for surgical (83.9%) and endodontic procedures (60.9%), with the main indications being pulpal (85.8%), periradicular (57.3%), and postoperative pain (40.1%). Conclusions: This study reveals significant knowledge and confidence gaps among dentists, including limited awareness of the efficacy of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for odontogenic pain, a lack of time for effective counseling, and perceived deficits in pharmacology education. To address these issues, targeted educational interventions are recommended to improve analgesic prescribing practice, close knowledge gaps, and increase dentists' confidence in more effective pain management.

The modulation of TRPV1 emerges as a promising strategy for dental pain management. This study aimed to assess TRPV1 modulation in a human odontoblast-like cell model using Capsazepine (CZP) loaded in a nanogel delivery system. Gelatin nanogels, synthesized via the emulsification-gelation technique, were characterized and loaded with the TRPV1 antagonist, CZP. HPLC determined a remarkable 67.5 ± 0.04% CZP loading efficiency, with 71.7% of nanogels falling within the 300-950 nm size range, as evidenced by light microscopy. Moreover, CZP-loaded nanogels had a low cytotoxicity. An FTIR analysis showed no adverse chemical interactions, ensuring stability and active release. When examining biological responses, TRPV1 expression and channel activity were assessed in odontoblast-like cells. On the fifth day post-treatment, cells treated with CZP-loaded nanogels exhibited an increased TRPV1 expression and a reduction in calcium fluxes after agonist stimulus (F/F0 ratio 1.18 ± 0.18), resembling the response in free CZP-treated cells (1.28 ± 0.15). A two-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's test were used to determine statistical significance (p < 0.05). This delivery system, proven to be economical and straightforward, holds promise for dental pain management and potential local use. Local administration minimizes systemic adverse effects, making it a practical solution for releasing molecules in the oral cavity.

Objectives: The use of interactive mobile health (mHealth) applications to monitor patient-reported postoperative pain outcomes is an emerging area in dentistry that requires further exploration. This study aimed to evaluate and improve the usability of an existing mHealth application. Materials and methods: The usability of the application was assessed iteratively using a 3-phase approach, including a rapid cognitive walkthrough (Phase I), lab-based usability testing (Phase II), and in situ pilot testing (Phase III). The study team conducted Phase I, while providers and patients participated in Phase II and III. Results: The rapid cognitive walkthrough identified 23 potential issues that could negatively impact user experience, with the majority classified as system issues. The lab-based usability testing yielded 141 usability issues.; 43% encountered by patients and 57% by dentists. Usability problems encountered during pilot testing included undelivered messages due to mobile phone carrier and service-related issues, errors in patients' phone number data entry, and problems in provider training. Discussion: Through collaborative and iterative work with the vendor, usability issues were addressed before launching a trial to assess its efficacy. Conclusion: The usability of the mHealth application for postoperative dental pain was remarkably improved by the iterative analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This study aimed to evaluate the association between the oral health status and appetite in community-dwelling older adults. We enrolled 100 people aged ≥65 years who had participated in long-term care prevention projects between December 2018 and January 2019. Appetite was assessed using the Council on Nutrition Appetite Questionnaire score. The oral health status was assessed based on the number of teeth, occlusal condition, swallowing function, tongue coating, and the Oral Health Assessment Tool. A multiple linear regression analysis was performed with appetite as the dependent variable and each variable related to oral health status as an independent variable. The analysis was adjusted for sex, age, activities of daily living, cognitive function, smoking habit, and alcohol consumption. Dental pain was associated with poor appetite in community-dwelling older adults. No other oral health status parameter was associated with appetite. Thus, controlling dental pain is critical to prevent appetite loss while considering other factors.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted routine and preventive dental services until precautions could be implemented to limit virus transmission. Access to services for dental emergencies was maintained. The objective of this study was to describe the reported need for, access to, and receipt of oral health care in Canada during the first year of the pandemic. Data and methods: The 2021 Survey on Access to Health Care and Pharmaceuticals During the Pandemic collected information from Canadians aged 18 years and older. Respondents were asked whether they needed (routine) dental care in the previous 12 months, whether they received that care, whether they experienced any mouth or tooth pain (indicative of a dental emergency), and whether and how COVID-19 affected service access. Results: Of the 44.5% of Canadians who reported needing dental care in the 12 months before the survey, 5.8% did not receive the care they reportedly needed. Almost 20% of those with a reported need had their appointment cancelled, rescheduled, or delayed because of COVID-19, and this was more common for individuals with unmet dental care needs (46.9%) than it was for those who had received dental care (17.1%). For those requiring more urgent care, 23.3% of Canadians experienced pain in their mouth or teeth in the previous 12 months. Among those with dental pain, 64.2% sought treatment, and the majority (86.4%) received the treatment they needed. One-third (33.2%) avoided care for their dental-related pain because of fear of contracting COVID-19. Interpretation: During the first year of the pandemic, many Canadians experienced cancelled or delayed dental services or did not receive the oral health care services they reportedly needed. Ongoing monitoring could help determine whether these COVID-19 service interruptions will have lasting effects on Canadians' oral health.

BACKGROUND: A panel convened by the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania conducted systematic reviews and meta-analyses and formulated evidence-based recommendations for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain after simple and surgical tooth extraction(s) and for the temporary management (ie, definitive dental treatment not immediately available) of toothache associated with pulp and periapical diseases in adolescents, adults, and older adults. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: The panel conducted 4 systematic reviews to determine the effect of opioid and nonopioid analgesics, local anesthetics, corticosteroids, and topical anesthetics on acute dental pain. The panel used the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach to assess the certainty of the evidence and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation Evidence-to-Decision Framework to formulate recommendations. RESULTS: The panel formulated recommendations and good practice statements using the best available evidence. There is a beneficial net balance favoring the use of nonopioid medications compared with opioid medications. In particular, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs alone or in combination with acetaminophen likely provide superior pain relief with a more favorable safety profile than opioids. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Nonopioid medications are first-line therapy for managing acute dental pain after tooth extraction(s) and the temporary management of toothache. The use of opioids should be reserved for clinical situations when the first-line therapy is insufficient to reduce pain or there is contraindication of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Clinicians should avoid the routine use of just-in-case prescribing of opioids and should exert extreme caution when prescribing opioids to adolescents and young adults.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of diode laser and ozone gas in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity (DHS). METHODS: One hundred thirty-two teeth from 44 patients with moderate DHS were randomized into 3 groups according to a split-mouth design. In the diode laser group, the operator irradiated the superficial dentin exposed with an 808-nm wavelength and incremental power from 0.2 to 0.6 W with a 20-second interval. In the ozone gas group, the operator applied a high dose of ozone (32 g/m3) for 30 seconds using a silicon cup. In the placebo group, no therapy was applied. The dentin sensitivity level was evaluated upon enrollment (T0), immediately after treatment (T1), 3 months post-treatment (T2), and 6 months post-treatment (T3) with a cold air blast challenge and tactile stimuli. The pain severity was quantified according to the visual analogue scale. The Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to scrutinize potential statistical disparities among the treatments. Statistical significance was predetermined at P < .05. RESULTS: A significant decrease of DHS was observed in the ozone gas group and the `diode laser group immediately after treatment and after 3 and 6 months of the therapy. After 6 months from the therapy, the sensitivity values in the teeth treated with ozone gas remained statistically lower than those treated with diode lasers (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: A laser diode and ozone gas are both efficient as dentin sensitivity treatment. Ozone maintains an invariable effectiveness after 6 months.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the perception of dental pain and its relationship to pain anxiety, dental anxiety, and mental pain. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 328 patients referred to dental clinics in Kermanshah (Iran) from 2020 to 2021. The instruments used in this study included scales assessing pain anxiety, dental anxiety, mental pain, and pain perception. RESULTS: There was a significant relationship (p = .001) between pain perception with dental anxiety (r = .38), pain anxiety (r = .45), and mental pain (r = .25). CONCLUSION: Psychological factors are associated with the perception of dental pain. Given the importance of dental care to overall health, psychological interventions may help to reduce the perception of dental pain and fear of seeing dentists in Iran.

Orofacial pain is a complex experience made up of different features and involving various aspects of life. It has demonstrated a connection, especially when chronic, with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders, through paths that still have not been completely clarified. A deep understanding of orofacial pain and its impact on an individual's life is critical for planning accurate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. This review seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the components constituting the pain experience, its implications in an individual's life, the different tools for multidimensional pain assessment, and the specific applications for each tool. A comprehensive review was performed using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science electronic databases. Ninety-five studies, including observational studies, clinical trials, case-control studies, and case reports, were included and analyzed in this review. Orofacial pain assessment exploits several methods, ranging from clinical evaluation to rating scales, questionnaires, and daily diaries. The choice of the correct instrument requires an evaluation of the type of pain experienced, of the patient's characteristics and abilities to complete particular tasks, and finally, of the assessment tool features.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate patients' preference for extraction or preservation for toothache and hypothetical anterior tooth pain along with the specific reason for their choice. BASIC RESEARCH DESIGN: Cross-sectional analytical semi-structured interview study. PARTICIPANTS: A sample of 703 adult dental outpatients visiting secondary and tertiary government health centres with toothache due to dental caries in Eastern India. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Patients preferring restorative or extraction services for toothache, specific reason, and socio-demographic background factors for anterior and posterior teeth. RESULTS: Half (50.1%) choose preservation for present toothache and 79.9% for hypothetical front tooth pain. Immediate relief from toothache for extraction and the motive to preserve natural teeth for preservation were the main reasons expressed. In logistic regression, participants preferring extraction were more likely to be aged 25-34 years (OR = 1.94), 55+ years (OR=33.32), have primary and below education level (OR=1.99), have had a previous extraction (OR=1.99) and be unaware of preservation options (OR=2.34). For assumed anterior tooth pain, those between 25-34 years (OR=0.39) were more likely to choose preservation. Participants with primary and below education levels (OR=1.99) and unaware of preservation options (OR=1.95) chose extraction of the front tooth irrespective of their choice of treatment for the present toothache. CONCLUSION: Notable differences between the choices to preserve or extract a posterior tooth were not found. There was greater preference towards preserving anterior teeth. Future research should identify additional barriers to the preference and utilization of restorative services.

Aging is related to a variety of physiological organ changes, including central and peripheral nervous systems. It has been reported that the orexin signaling has a potential analgesic effect in different models of pain, especially inflammatory pulpal pain. However, the age-induced alteration in dental pain perception and orexin analgesia has not yet been fully elucidated. Here, we tested that how aging may change the effect of orexin-A on nociceptive behaviors in a rat dental pulp pain model. The expression levels of orexin receptors and the nociceptive neuropeptides substance P (SP) and calcitonin-related gene peptide (CGRP) were also assessed in the trigeminal nucleus caudalis (TNC) of young and aged rats. Dental pulp pain was induced by intradental application of capsaicin (100 µg). The immunofluorescence technique was used to evaluate the expression levels. The results show less efficiency of orexin-A to ameliorate pain perception in aged rats as compared to young rats. In addition, a significant decrease in the number of orexin 1 and 2 receptors was observed in the TNC of aged as compared to young rats. Dental pain-induced SP and CGRP overexpression was also significantly inhibited by orexin-A injection into the TNC of young animals. In contrast, orexin-A could not produce such effects in the aged animals. In conclusion, the older age-related reduction of the antinociceptive effect of orexin may be due to the downregulation of its receptors and inability of orexin signaling to inhibit the expression of nociceptive neuropeptides such as SP and CGRP in aged rats.

Dental pain in children is a global public health burden with psychosocial and economic implications, challenging families and pediatric dentists in daily clinical practice. Previous studies have addressed the exclusive impact of either caries, dental trauma, malocclusion, or socioeconomic status on OHRQoL. Even though such examples can surely cause dental pain in children, so far only little research on the correlation of dental pain as a general symptom of different underlying causes and OHRQoL has been published. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of dental pain on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children between the ages of 0 and 6 years old and subsequently compare the results to a control group free of tooth ache. Children and their adult caregivers were recruited from the Emergency unit of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University Clinic of Dentistry in Vienna. The caregivers completed the German version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS-G). Afterwards, the children were clinically examined. The cause for dental pain, dmf-t index, and plaque accumulation were collected. In total, 259 children with a mean age of 4.2 years (SD ± 1.5 years) were included in the study group. Their mean ECOHIS-G score was 9.0 (SD ± 7.4), while the control group only amounted to a score of 4.9 (SD ± 5.6). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant in both ECOHIS-G subsections, the child impact scale (CIS) and the family impact scale (FIS) as well as the ECOHIS-G sum score (p < 0.05). Dmf-t index and plaque accumulation significantly correlated with CIS and ECOHIS sum score (p ≤ 0.05). The reduction in quality of life was nearly twice as great in the children with dental pain as in the control children. The ECOHIS-G is a valid instrument for measuring the OHRQoL of children with dental pain between the ages of 0 to 6.

BACKGROUND: A guideline panel convened by the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs, American Dental Association Science and Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, and Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the University of Pennsylvania conducted a systematic review and meta-analyses and formulated evidence-based recommendations for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain after 1 or more simple and surgical tooth extractions and the temporary management of toothache (that is, when definitive dental treatment not immediately available) associated with pulp and furcation or periapical diseases in children (< 12 years). TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: The authors conducted a systematic review to determine the effect of analgesics and corticosteroids in managing acute dental pain. They used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach to assess the certainty of the evidence and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation Evidence to Decision framework to formulate recommendations. RESULTS: The panel formulated 7 recommendations and 5 good practice statements across conditions. There is a small beneficial net balance favoring the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs alone or in combination with acetaminophen compared with not providing analgesic therapy. There is no available evidence regarding the effect of corticosteroids on acute pain after surgical tooth extractions in children. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Nonopioid medications, specifically nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen alone or in combination with acetaminophen, are recommended for managing acute dental pain after 1 or more tooth extractions (that is, simple and surgical) and the temporary management of toothache in children (conditional recommendation, very low certainty). According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the use of codeine and tramadol in children for managing acute pain is contraindicated.

However, the age-induced alteration in dental pain perception and the underlying molecular mechanism(s) has not yet been fully clarified. METHODS: Here, the effect of aging on nociceptive behaviors following inflammatory dental pulp pain was evaluated. Since prostaglandins, nociceptive neuropeptides, and inflammatory cytokines have critical roles in the development of aging as well as pain signaling, the expression levels of COX-2, CGRP, IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α and its converting enzyme TACE were assessed in the trigeminal ganglion of young and aged rats with dental pain. Dental pulp pain was induced by intradental application of capsaicin (100 µg). The immunofluorescence (COX-2 and CGRP) and western blot techniques were used. RESULTS: The data showed that aged animals have different pattern of pain. So that, the mean of nociceptive scores was significantly greater in aged rats at 10 and 15 min after capsaicin injection. In aged rats, dental pain was persisting over 7 h, while it was disappeared at 300 min in young rats. Molecular data showed that dental pain significantly increased the expression of COX-2, CGRP, IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α and TACE in the trigeminal ganglion of the young and aged rats. In addition, the amount of those parameters, except TACE, in capsaicin-treated aged animals were significantly (p < 0.05) greater than those in capsaicin-treated young rats. CONCLUSION: It seems that the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines in an acute inflammatory pulpal pain model may contribute, at least in part to the increased nociceptive behaviors and pain perception in aged rats.

Despite advancements in dental pain management, one of the most common reasons for emergency dental care is orofacial pain. Our study aimed to determine the effects of non-psychoactive Cannabis constituents in the treatment of dental pain and related inflammation. We tested the therapeutic potential of two non-psychoactive Cannabis constituents, cannabidiol (CBD) and ß-caryophyllene (ß-CP), in a rodent model of orofacial pain associated with pulp exposure. Sham or left mandibular molar pulp exposures were performed on Sprague Dawley rats treated with either vehicle, the phytocannabinoid CBD (5 mg/kg i.p.) or the sesquiterpene ß-CP (30 mg/kg i.p.) administered 1 h pre-exposure and on days 1, 3, 7, and 10 post-exposure. Orofacial mechanical allodynia was evaluated at baseline and post-pulp exposure. Trigeminal ganglia were harvested for histological evaluation at day 15. Pulp exposure was associated with significant orofacial sensitivity and neuroinflammation in the ipsilateral orofacial region and trigeminal ganglion. ß-CP but not CBD produced a significant reduction in orofacial sensitivity. ß-CP also significantly reduced the expression of the inflammatory markers AIF and CCL2, while CBD only decreased AIF expression. These data represent the first preclinical evidence that non-psychoactive cannabinoid-based pharmacotherapy may provide a therapeutic benefit for the treatment of orofacial pain associated with pulp exposure.

With increasing rates of asthma in the general population, dental professionals need to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of poorly controlled asthma and modify dental treatment accordingly. Prevention of an acute asthma exacerbation is key. Patients should be reminded to bring their rescue inhaler with them to every dental appointment. Patients who are using inhaled corticosteroids to manage their asthma are at greater risk of oral candidiasis, xerostomia, and caries. Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene are important among this population.

This study investigated the prevalence and associations of molar-incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) in 8-9 year-old children in Oslo. A total of 3013 children in one age cohort participated in the study during their regular dental examination at the Public Dental Service. Hypomineralised enamel defects were recorded according to the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry criteria for MIH. Information on health and medications used during pregnancy and in the child's first 3 years of life was obtained from a questionnaire administered to parents. The overall prevalence of MIH was 28.2%, with no gender difference. A higher prevalence of MIH was found in children who had been ill or had used medication in early life and in those whose mother had been ill during pregnancy. No association was found between MIH and prematurity or maternal use of medication during pregnancy. The multivariable analyses showed that children with MIH were more likely to have suffered from illness in early life (OR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.17-1.70), used antibiotics during the first year of life (OR = 1.68, 95% CI: 1.19-2.35), experienced tooth pain (OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.03-1.72), and experienced pain while toothbrushing (OR = 2.17, 95% CI: 1.46-3.23) than children without MIH. The prevalence of MIH was high in the children participating in this study.

BACKGROUND: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain-United States, 2022 (CDCCPG) to replace the 2016 guideline. This guideline was designed to serve as a clinical tool to improve communication between clinicians and patients and empower them to make informed, person-centered decisions regarding pain management and the prescribing of opioids. It is intended for primary care and other clinicians, including dentists, who provide pain management for adults with acute, subacute, and chronic pain. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: This article summarizes the CDCCPG, with an emphasis on information of relevance to dentistry. RESULTS: For dentists, the most important recommendations for pain management are that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications are first-line medications for acute dental pain, interdisciplinary care for chronic orofacial pain is indicated, and opioids should only be prescribed for acute dental pain for a maximum of 3 days after risk assessment. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The CDCCPG contains a great deal of relevant information that can help dentists and dental specialists make safe, effective, and evidence-based decisions in providing pain control for their patients.
